Labor Day Weekend, The Park

Part One:
My family hates being late (or maybe thats just me). I'm always 10-15 minutes early for appointments and meetings. Though, church is an exception. We're usually late. Historically, Labor day weekend traffic is brutal. Everyone knows that right? In order to make the 7 o'clock Sea Dogs game in Maine, our family budgeted four hours, it usually takes 1 3/4 hours to arrive in Saco from Concord. We left New Hampshire at 3:00 and arrived in Portland at 5:00, even with the holiday traffic, two pee stops, and a quick meal at Irving! With 1 1/2 hrs to kill before the game, my husband brought us to a park near Hadlock field. I had never been to this park before, but it is simply amazing. And huge. There is a large playground for the kids, several basketball courts, a paved running/bike trail, duck pond, and this wading area for kids. It was a great place for us to stretch our legs and let Ginger run around before her evening stay in the car. Inhumane, I know. Thankfully, it was a cool night.

First Day of School

On August 24th, just 13 days after she turned 5, Juliette started kindergarten.

I'm not going to go into details about how I felt about sending Juliette to kindergarten. Let's just say...I'm still adjusting. Juliette on the otherhand, is a natural. She loves school, she loves learning. She's very intelligent and the kindergarten environment will stimulate and encourage personal growth. I think I made the right choice!

In July, Juliette made a pirate treasure box. In previous months we have made a jewlery box, a bird feeder, and a race car.

She took turns hammering the nails then passing the nails.

Thanks to Papa's handy-man skills, we were able to finish it in no time!

Goodbye Berry

I'm sad to say, but berry picking season is almost over. We've certainly had more than our share of fresh berries from local farms, but I feel good because not only have we stocked up on antioxidants, but we've also supported our friendly neighbors.

I have to say, that despite Juliette's frequent breaks to snack on berries, she did a wonderful job picking the berries. Unlike previous seasons, the berries remained firm and intact.

How could anyone resist a beautiful plump, juicy berry like this?

I couldn't! So here's a little treat for you!

The Candyland Queen turns 5

This is the Candyland cake I came up with after Juliette requested it for her birthday. This cake was HUGE. It consisted of two 9x13 cakes, that's 18x26! Unfortunately, we threw almost half of it away.
