I Want to be a Scout

Now that Juliette is a kindergartener she has the opportunity to participate in school-related activities and scouts is something she has wanted to do for a long, long time. My husband used to teach boy scouts at our church and one day after church Juliette and I attended one of their Court of Honor award ceremonies. Juliette was amazed by their uniforms and colorful patches and immediately announced that she was going to be a boy scout too. Unfortunately, girls can't be boy scouts and that was heartbreaking news for her.

During Welcome Back Night at Juliette's school she tried a second time to join the boy scouts. There was an information table with two young boy scouts handing out leaf-lets and as hard as she tried to talk them into letting her join, it turned out to be another disappointment. In the mean time I had investigated the girl scouts program. The closest located was more than 45 minutes from us.

Then one day a white piece of paper posted outside of the kindergarten classroom caught my attention. It announced that a brandnew girl scout daisy troop had just been established and they needed new members to join! So here she is, officially a girl scout!

Flashback to Fall Harvest Party

This party was a blast and Juliette's school did such a great job keeping the kiddos entertained! They had music, games, crafts, a pumpkin display, and a haunted house! It was so good for Juliette to see her friends outside of the classroom too!

Musical chairs, anyone? Juliette grasped the concept of musical chairs quite quickly. She came in third, even with all those big kids!

One of the crafts were ghost pumpkins. We used a toostie pop and put filter paper over it and tied it with yarn. What a cute idea!

This was one of Juliette's favorite games. It was a race to see who could assemble the skeleton first. The parents could race their children, but they used one that was a lot harder. Needless to say, Juliette beat me and I was trying to win!

A New Friend

Juliette met my grandmother's new kitten. He's very cute. His name is Nuisance and it's very fitting.

How did this happen?

Doesn't it look like she grew a few inches over night? And where did her chubbie cheeks go? She doesn't look like a toddler anymore!

Follow the Prophet

My husband returned home from the Priesthood Session of General Conference with some important information he wanted to share. He said that father's have been counseled to spend one-on-one time with each of their children at least once a month. So he did just that. And because he knows how much I love photos, he came home with some footage from their adventures.

Sly Guy

Dan and I met through our church's YSA (Young Single Adults) group. I was hosting a dessert party at my place and Dan came. I didn't recognize him from our ward and later found out that he was a student at UMaine, but had been living in Winthrop that semester. After our dessert party, Dan kept showing up to more of the church activities. And on May Day I came home to find this thoughtful, little May basket on my front porch. I thought: "Aww, how nice it was for one of the Relief Society members (who are all female) to give out May baskets. It never crossed my mind that a man could have put together this cute little package. With a poem. Bubbles. Chocolate. A kite for Juliette. Among other things. It was the most thoughtful idea and I kept asking around (to at least thank the mystery person), but no one would claim the gift. I even became so desperate to find the person that I started asking my peers, in fact, I was at Institute one evening asked before class. Again, nobody spoke up. I think months must have passed by when I discovered the following evidence on Dan's facebook.

If you haven't heard...

The Lawson's are headed to Bangor, Maine for the summer of 2010! Dan interviewed with five law firms for a summer associate position and we accepted a position at Eaton Peabody. We're very excited to be back in the area with our old ward and our old friends, who we miss very much. Bangor was where Dan and I first met so it'll be nice to go back for the summer. We haven't quite ironed out the details, but ideally we'll keep our place here in New Hampshire and sub-let for the summer. Congratulations to my amazing husband!
